Your ID is requested solely for identity verification to ensure the safety and accountability of all volunteers. The copy helps confirm that registrants are legitimate, especially where assignments involve access to shelters, supplies, or vulnerable groups.

This Usage Data may also include information such as your computer's Internet Protocol address (e.g. IP address), browser type, browser version, the pages of our Service that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages, unique device identifiers and other diagnostic data.

When you access the Service by or through a mobile device, this Usage Data may include information such as the type of mobile device you use, your mobile device's unique ID, the IP address of your mobile device, your mobile operating system, the type of mobile Internet browser you use, unique device identifiers and other diagnostic data.

Tracking & Cookies Data

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to track the activity on our Service and hold certain information.

Cookies are files with small amount of data which may include an anonymous unique identifier. Cookies are sent to your browser from a website and stored on your device. The Government of Jamaica uses the collected data for various purposes:

We will only keep your personal data for as long as it is needed for the disaster-relief and recovery activities for which it was collected, and for a limited period afterwards where we are required to do so for legal, reporting or audit purposes. After that, your data will be securely deleted or irreversibly anonymised, in keeping with Jamaica’s Data Protection Act, which requires that personal data is not kept longer than is necessary for its purpose.

You have the right at any time – including when the relief effort concludes – to ask us to correct inaccurate information about you, or to request that we delete your personal data where it is no longer needed, where you withdraw your consent, or where we are processing it unlawfully.

To do this, you may contact us ​by writing to the Data Protection Officer, Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management, 2-4 Haining Road​, Kingston 5, Jamaica​ . We may need to verify your identity. We will respond to requests for access, correction or deletion within the time limits set by Jamaican law (generally 30 days), and either carry out your request or explain clearly if any information must be retained because of a specific legal obligation.

Access is strictly limited to authorised personnel from the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) , the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), and Amber Innovations Limited.

Transfer Of Data

Your information, including Personal Data, may be transferred to — and maintained on — computers located outside of your state, province, country or other governmental jurisdiction where the data protection laws may differ than those from your jurisdiction.

If you are located outside Jamaica and choose to provide information to us, please note that we transfer the data, including Personal Data, to Jamaica and process it there.

Your consent to this Privacy Policy followed by your submission of such information represents your agreement to that transfer.

The Government of Jamaica will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy and no transfer of your Personal Data will take place to an organization or a country unless there are adequate controls in place including the security of your data and other personal information.

The Government of Jamaica may disclose your Personal Data in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to:

Security Of Data

Our website uses SSL encryption to ensure that your data is protected during transmission. Upon successful submission, your data will be securely stored on our server and protected by a Firewall. We use regular malware scanning to ensure that the Service is protected so as to prevent unauthorized access to your data.

If there is a personal data breach, there are procedures in place to detect, assess, and respond quickly. Where a breach is likely to result in a risk to rights or freedoms, we will report it to the Information Commissioner in line with Jamaica’s Data Protection Act. If the breach is likely to pose a high risk to you (for example, risk of fraud, identity theft, or serious distress), we will also notify you directly, without undue delay.

Users will be notified using the contact details provided on registration – typically by email, SMS and, where appropriate, WhatsApp. The notification will explain, as clearly as possible: what happened, what type of data is involved, the possible risks, what we have done to contain and fix the issue, and what steps you can take to protect yourself.

Our incident-response process includes: strict access controls, activity logging and monitoring, a defined escalation path to our Data Protection Officer, internal timelines for assessing incidents, and templates for notifying both the Information Commissioner and affected volunteers. These measures are designed to ensure that any serious breach is managed and communicated in full compliance with Jamaica’s Data Protection Act.

Disclaimer

While security of your data is important to us, but remember that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your Personal Data, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Service Providers

We may employ third party companies and individuals to facilitate our Service ("Service Providers"), to provide the Service on our behalf, to perform Service-related services or to assist us in analyzing how our Service is used.

These third parties have access to your Personal Data only to perform these tasks on our behalf and are obligated not to disclose or use it for any other purpose.

Google Analytics – Google Analytics is a web analytics service offered by Google that tracks and reports website traffic. Google uses the data collected to track and monitor the use of our Service.
